Carifiesta 2016: Revelers took over St. Catherine Street

After a brief rain delay on the morning of July 2, Carifiesta 2016  kicked off in a blaze of color and music from the corner of Fort Street  and made its way along St. Catherine Street to Phillips Square. In all, about 12 groups of varying sizes participated in a parade that was dominated by what is known in the Caribbean as Jab Jab mas. Two of the more populated bands had hundreds of high energy  Jabs bringing a special something to the parades. Also on the street this year were the usually spectacular Roots with their presentation of Tings …

Experiencing Carifiesta 2015

At the end of the day, on Saturday, July 4, the Carifiesta Parade delivered what was expected of it… lots of music, massive crowds and seemingly mindless indulgences. CARIFIESTA 2014

Carifiesta 2014 overflowed with energy, as thousands of revelers and spectators jammed along St. Catherine Street in downtown Montreal on Saturday, July 5, for another edition of the much anticipated summertime parade. With just three bands in full masquerade costumes, Roots Cultural Association, JMG and Dave Marshall’s Socalypso Colors and Carnival Vibrations, what Carifiesta lacked in color was more than compensated for by the zest and exuberance of the thousands of young people who were out to enjoy the sparkling sunshine and Caribbean music. Then there was the massive Jab Jab band (Montreal Jab) presented by The Grenada Association, which …
