Dawn Sealey and Stacie Merriman are both convinced that they are a perfect business match. You see, not only are they both driven by a passion for everything that has to do with hair: from styles to products to trends, they also share a commitment to succeed as entrepreneurs.
In fact, that’s why Sealy walked away from a secure paycheck from her hospital job, which she held for close to 30 years, to launch Kemse Beauty Supply about 2½ years ago in the West Island.
Same thing for Merriman who, after 15 years in the field, has established herself as one of the leading hairstylists in Montreal and has the props to show for it: she was the natural hair stylist to actress Aunjanue Ellis, who appeared on season 1 of ABC’s much hyped drama series “Quantico”, and in 2013 emerged the winner among an impressive field of aspiring entrepreneurs in U.I.B.E’s Pitch The Dream challenge. She launched Studio de Coiffure Stacie Merriman in 2014.
Sealey and Merriman were both at crossroads and exploring different avenues to build their businesses when they were brought together by a local NLP practitioner and life coach, Velcia Scott, and immediately found common ground in wanting to focus on women and children with natural and wavy, curly, and kinky/coily hair.
They decided that their joint venture was going to be a central station into the specialized area for treating and styling natural and curly hair. Merriman bringing her decade-and-a half experience as a stylist, and Sealey ensuring that her store carried the latest in the wide range of products needed to help clients grow healthy hair.
This past October they formalized the bond with Studio de Coiffure Stacie Merriman sharing space at KEMSE where they are now offering tutorials for parents and children curl education, curl definition, protective styles, dreadlocks, and various hair styling for natural textured and curly hair.
Merriman and Sealey say with diversity spreading across the West Island and the rest of Montreal their goal is to meet the growing demand for families that fall into the natural and curly hair category.
Dawn and Stacie are committed to bringing diversity within the West Island and continue to meet the demands of women and their children.
The salon and beauty supply store have created an environment that is as harmonious as their team effort to come together to grow their businesses.
