On to Martinique and St. Thomas

The brewing Atlantic storm kept cruisers at bay but the ship still off a lot of fun, entertainment and great food We got back to the ship on time, and as we were getting onto the tenders, the waves were getting bigger and bigger, causing the tender to hit the steps of the ship real hard. A woman screamed, literally cursing at the crew, as she wanted to know if they were trying to get the passengers killed! Other passengers were not listening to the crew at all, trying to jump onto the stairs – one false move and they …

Cruising The Caribbean on The Norwegian Dawn

From New York City to Antigua Back in 2006 we had our first experience driving to the States to pick up a cruise ship (instead of flying to a set destination), and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Not only is it considerably cheaper, as we did not have to pay for a flight, we were able to take our time down to New York to visit with family and get onto the lovely Norwegian Dawn. This year would take us through to Boston where I spent two days with my beloved brother-in-law Maxwell Ayoung and his lovely family. The drive through …

The Many Joys of Cruising

As we enter into the dull days of January and February, with the bright lights of Christmas behind us, and colder weather ahead of us, many readers of the Community Contact continue to ask me about cruising and travelling, and why I haven’t been writing about my adventures as much. The truth is that with a new grandson keeping me entertained, I haven’t been travelling as much, just the few odd trips to New York, Miami, and Toronto. As such, it was suggested to be me that I write about how I became interested in cruising and travelling. This is …

Gotta love Montreal in the summer

Enjoy the season, it’s gonna be short Summer oh summer where forth art thou?  Sitting in my living room, watching the heavens open up in all its glory. This has been going on for the last two nights, no back yard   chat, no bar-b-ques, no limes, no old talk sessions. One minute it’s so cold that one has to grab for extra covers at night, next minute it’s hot. The weather is certainly not cooperating. June showers I am totally grateful for as it makes the few grass stubs green and the tons of dandelions prosper more all over the …

CARTAGENA – COLUMBIA

Passed through the magnificent Panama Canal, now all roads lead to…. 80 to 90 per cent of the country’s emeralds and silver come from this area   Many would say that the destinations we visit on our cruises are like works of art. Certainly the charms of the Panama Canal and Central/South America offer something to satisfy anyone’s sense of aesthetics. As the Coral Princess makes its way across the cool, calm Caribbean Sea one cannot help but reflect on the wonder of the Panama Canal with its majestic locks and serene beauty where so many of our fore-parents toiled, …

Going to PANAMA

Reaching the Panama Canal on the Coral Princess. Visiting a place ripe history involving the people of the Caribbean   Day 13th of this 19th day cruise on the Coral Princess found us in a very relaxed mood up on deck with a very cold beer called Grolsch that comes in quite a unique bottle with a reusable cap. The Coral Princess is making its way through the Gulf of Panama towards the Panama Canal. The excitement on board is very evident even though there is a sweet air of relaxation and anticipation. As we are sailing real smooth on …

SAN JUAN DEL SUR- NICARAGUA

Cruising to the Panama Canal Beauty, intrigue and remnants of revolution   Recently a question was asked of me why do I enjoy cruising as much as I do? In this article I will try to answer the best way I can. Firstly up front, one thing that grabs me is the fact that I am on a moving 5 -Star hotel and simply put, I don’t have to worry about hauling suitcases from country to country, what I am going to eat, especially the cuisine variety that you are presented with, the impeccable maid service, the nightly entertainment and …

Cruising to the Panama Canal: DAYS AT SEA

It’s always exciting for me watching these big, magnificent islands called cruise ships maneuver out of tight spaces, and this one, the Coral Princess is no different, as it pushes itself ever so slowly sideways to clear other ships and then move forward out of the beautiful cruise ship port of Los Angeles towards the ever dark-blue Pacific Ocean heading for our next destination, Los Cabos, on the coast of Mexico.   This is the playground of celebrities and rich people from the U.S. and Canada. However, before we get to Los Cabos we have two days at sea. …
